The original story "The Captive" led to a novel, and three additional volumes followed. With this collection you are finally holding all four Betania Breed single SciFi romance novels, complete and unabridged, in your hands – and mysterious background material is included. In over 800 pages, you will be up close and personal on an adventurous and dramatic voyage through the universe.

The Boxed Set includes the Betania Breed Series Volumes I-IV:

The Captive
Betania Breed Book One

I am one of the few people who hasn’t given up the fight against the Sethari yet. I would rather die than surrender to the aliens who have enslaved us humans for more than one hundred years. Then the unthinkable happens: I am awarded to the leader of the aliens, so I can bear him healthy, viable children. I am prepared for anything, except this one thing – that this merciless warrior, with his strange eyes and scaly skin, would awaken feelings in me...

The Prey
Betania Breed Book Two

Johar is the most merciless and successful bounty hunter there is. His reputation is legendary, for he has never let any prey slip through his fingers. His creator’s beautiful daughter hates Johar and lets him feel it every waking minute. But Johar knows something about her that nobody else knows. Not even she herself... The book takes place a few months after the events of book 1.

The Human
Betania Breed Book Three

Talon Delkhari was the mightiest warlord of his people, until he dared to contradict his king. Instead of granting him an honorable death in the fight against their enemies, the king made him his chamberlain instead. His newest conquest is from Earth. He won her in a poker game, and Talon is supposed to deliver her safely to his bed. An easy assignment for someone like Talon. That’s what heI thought, anyway, until this human woman awakens the predator lurking under his skin… The book takes place a few years after the events of book 2.

The Dragon
Betania Breed Book Four

The fourth volume takes place shortly after the events in book 3. Coran Burke is an elite undercover agent from Earth. The tough and emotionless fighter has never failed. His new mission leads him to Dassuria where he is pursuing a dangerous dragon lord. At the center of his investigation is a woman who has a lot to hide - but despite her entanglement with the dragon lord, Coran can’t get her out of his head...

I was given this book as an ARC.

But – Oh Dear!

I read up to Part 3: The Awakening in Hope, but really, this whole muscles and pheromones and falling in ‘love ‘ aka lust at first sight? Just too predictable.

I thought the writing style rather prosaic and not in any way different from 100s of other such alien abduction style books.

The heroine could have been acceptable but she was rather 2 dimensional and finding out after several ‘chapters’ that we were somewhere in Ad 3900 was just too late.

Desolation and grief can leave you floating, unable to find a new shape to your existence.

Who knew that it was possible to be shocked out of the morass of sorrow by a well-timed push?!

Madrik was reeling from the loss of his family and unable to find his way into the new reality. Then something happened that sent him further than he ever thought to travel. A new life, in a new dimension!

This is a place where problems are solved, and life is continually changing. Come in, put your feet up, and join the crew that Madrik is collecting in this shared universe.

Be amused and challenged, touched and enthralled.

Welcome to the Badger Hole Bar!

This a review of all 3 books so far in this series:

  1. Through the Badger Hole
  2. Grand Opening
  3. Fashion forward

There is also a cookbook which I have not looked at.

This is about a pocket universe that is also sentient and grows as energy is poured into it from those who visit. The more energetic they are – rowdy, noisy, dancing, happy etc – the bigger it gets and new things appear.

The visitors come through portals from other universes and are many and varied races and cultures. The universe /bar is clever in that there is an automatic translation scheme so you speak and understand everyone regardless of their language.

There are permanent inhabitants also who come through the chaos fog that surrounds the universe which is currently configured as a bar with some of the necessary suppliers eg a brewery. Some of the supplies though come through a portal, and there is one, of course, through in the Federal Witch’s garden as this is a spin-off book from that series.

I really liked this concept and enjoyed learning how the universe operated in book 1. Book 2 went over some of the same concepts from the views of different inhabitants and thus lost some of the edge of the new. It provided the reader with the backgrounds which was useful but..

Book 3 was far too short, but I enjoyed the Clothier and how her sentient shop and house and tools worked. Good tip on the pin cushion!

Go Hunt a Relic

Rust and Relics

Lindsay Buroker

urban fantasy

Kindle

When Delia chose to major in archaeology, she imagined herself as the female Indiana Jones of the Southwest. She didn’t imagine herself crawling through abandoned mine shafts, scrounging for rusty pickaxes and gold pans to sell on auction sites, but Indiana Jones didn’t have to make student loan payments.

Scouring the mountains of Arizona with Simon, her best friend and computer geek extraordinaire, Delia dreams of turning their scavenging enterprise into a legitimate business. More, she longs to earn the respect of peers who shun her for turning into a treasure hunter. What she doesn’t dream of is stumbling across a decapitated body in an old mine near Prescott.

Something dangerous has come to the mountains, and two Harley-riding strangers are the only ones who seem to have a clue. They speak a language Delia has never heard and carry mysterious artifacts she’s never seen. Investigating these strangers might lead her to discoveries that change the face of archaeology forever… or it might lead her and her best friend into a deadly monster’s lair.

One of the things I really like about compilation books is that you often find new authors with a style that you enjoy and read more of. With the best will in the world – and even with my reading speed of some 300 plus a year (!) – you just can’t read all the new authors (and old ones too) out there and so being led into a group of friends who write in a similar style is great.

So it was with the box set ‘Witches and Warriors’ which led me to Lindsay Buroker. A new author to me but one that has been writing Secondary World Sagas for about 7 years, and has managed to write some 6 different sets of novels in that time. All steam-punk and fantasy and is now a full-time author with her earnings.. but hasn’t she worked hard to get there?…

So I discovered Lindsay’s other series and was drawn to the new saga based on Earth – Rust and Relics .

A female Harrison Ford. Why not? A bull whip can be very handy it turns out for fighting, substituting for rope, useful in collecting items, and generally giving the wearer an air of menace!

A great collection of characters were all connected up into a fighting and relic hunting group with some amazing foes – and a strong hint that human behaviour is how these foes are created.
