A member of the famed Texas Rangers, Daxton Chambers has dealt with more than his share of depravity. But the Lone Star Reaper takes evil to a whole new level, kidnapping and burying women alive. It's Dax's job to help keep San Antonio safe, but even with help from friends in various law enforcement agencies, the killer remains two steps ahead. It's hardly the ideal time for a relationship, but Mackenzie Morgan is too luscious to resist. Dax wants her--which makes her an instant target for his newfound enemy.

When the Reaper gets personal, it will take every ounce of Daxton's considerable skill and training to keep Mack alive.

This is book #1 in a nice series where all the heroes are military – in this one a Ranger.

But what is it with all these US women who have surnames for first names?

Anyway, we have a really nasty killer on the loose and he is aiming for MacKenzie, and her boyfriend just has to help her escape his clutches..

This is not high fiction but it is an enjoyable read, a good contemporary novel style and I read the remainder of the series after it.

Military men

Matthew “Wolf” Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn’t have to do it very often. He’d been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation and sense of humor the woman had as they flew 36,000 feet over the countryside.

When Caroline boarded the plane to Virginia to move across the country for her new job she never expected to be seated next to the hottest guy she’d ever seen. She also never expected he’d be so easy to talk to. She knew he’d never be interested in talking to her if he hadn’t been trapped in the seat next to her, but it was a nice way to spend a long plane ride.

Neither Wolf nor Caroline were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane, but if Caroline thought that would be the last time she’d see, or need, Wolf, she’d be sorely mistaken.

A 10 book series!

At times I get invested into certain book series and authors and as I was very ‘brain full’ in the rest of life, I needed a set of readings that were not too dark, or brain taxing. These were well written enough to keep me involved and entertained for several days (note I read a book most days).

Whilst reading these I could not concern myself with anything else – they kept me involved and interested. So I read the whole series! One after the other… well not all 10 admittedly but 4 or 5.

I am rather fond of these alpha male military stories, even though they are far from the type of man I would really be interested in. Tattoos – no. Muscles – no!

And then there was Fire

Montlake Romance

Beth Brown doesn’t believe in premonitions. But her recent dream feels too real to ignore: a commercial airliner is hijacked, and a handsome passenger is shot dead. Beth hasn’t met the mystery man in her dream; she would never forget a gorgeous face like his. But she can’t deny the bizarre connection she feels. Now awake, and unable to allow for the violence she’s convinced is impending, she races to the airport…and comes face to face with the man of her dreams.

Zane Winters lives for his job, using his uncanny psychic powers to carry out missions for elite SEAL Team 7. Yet the constant adrenaline highs can’t drown out the numbness seeping into his life as he yearns to find a woman he can trust. All that changes when he meets a beautiful stranger who sets his soul on fire—and somehow knows he’s about to die.

To thwart the global crisis the hijacking will unleash, Beth and Zane join forces. But even amid the danger, they can’t deny the powerful force drawing them together. Is it merely attraction…or destiny?

So this is book 1 of a triple – I have been reading but I can see that there may well be more of them – set of books about Seal Team 7.

Now we all know that SEALs are the sexiest of the Special Forces units so we can expect some serious males with attitude to be written about – several of whom, of course, are somewhat unloving, to put it politely, of the female gender. And one appears in this book as the chief of the team. But it is not him that is central to this story.

So starting at the beginning there are 3 members of ST7 waiting at the airport to go to Hawaii for a wedding – but they never make as terrorists try to blow up the very plane they were about to board. But the terrorists are foiled by the ST7 because Zane has a premonition and this premonition is confirmed by a member of the airport admin staff who comes hotfoot to the airport because of a dream she had. Meeting the SEALs she tells all and they stop the terrorists. But this is far from the end of the story – their boss who believes in Zane’s premonitions had to get permission from an Admiral, who mysteriously dies soon after, and then everyone who appears to be involved with the plot or foiling it either dies or has members of their family kidnapped so that they will do as they are told.

There are car chases, lots of guns, bullets and bullet holes, not to mention romance between those with premonitions.

We have a conspiracy theory behind this hijack plot that seems to be linked to every law enforcement agency and it becomes very difficult to know who to trust – except for other SEALS.

An excellent start to the trilogy.
