What Trouble? The Author Speaks

Nothing But Trouble Book Cover Nothing But Trouble
Irresistible Billionaires #1
Ashley Bostock
contemporary fiction, romance, Adult,

Billionaire CEO Michael Vilander needed just one date. Creating a fake profile on his own matchmaking website may not have been his brightest move. But then Sophia Baldwin’s arresting face pops up on his CHAT NOW feature. Not only is she gorgeous, but after spending half the night exchanging messages with her, he finds her to be naive, innocent and way too sexy.

Twenty-four-year-old Sophia Baldwin is barely able to make ends meet. Caring for her sick grandmother prevents her from having a normal life—aspirations of attending college full-time to become a nurse are on the back burner—but then she meets the charming and dazzling Clint on an online dating site. When he asks her to the Denver Arts Foundation’s Annual Valentine’s Day Gala, she’s confident things are looking up.

Once Sophia learns that her hot date is none other than website mogul Michael Vilander, she’s definitely not mentioning her night job. What’s a lie by omission anyway? After all, it’s only one date…Until Michael’s ex flaunts her fancy engagement ring in Michael’s face and something compels Sophia to announce her and Michael’s engagement. AKA, fake engagement. They agree on one month to pretend they’re in love before all bets are off.

Pretending to be in love with a sweet and sexy billionaire, but not actually falling in love, ahem, how hard could it be?

  1. How long do you think about a topic before deciding to write about it? Do you have a set of notes or a note book where you write down topics that appeal before making a decision as to which topic this time?

Well, depends. If I get an idea for a book or series but am currently writing a different book or I’m mid-series with something else, I take notes and write things down to go back to at a later date. The second I find a series or book to write, it sort of makes the decision for me as I’m writing book one. Like whether or not there is going to be a book three or book five. I think about what tropes I would like to see in the books. I enjoy friends-to-lovers and enemies to lovers as well as fake relationships turned real. This is if I’m mid-series. If I’m not, then I write whatever my heart is telling me to write. That could be notes I’ve taken previously, stories that I’ve maybe written the first ten pages of, or it could be a completely new idea that I have no notes for! I use a notebook to keep ideas in and note cards for scenes/plotting while I’m writing.

  1. Does writing provide sufficient income to live on? And how long did it take before this happened?

Not for me it hasn’t yet. It’s a slow process that takes a lot of work and dedication. It only happens overnight for very few people! Check back with me about how long it takes – I’m currently on my fourth year of self-publishing.

 3. What do you read when you are ill in bed?

I enjoy reading romance novels. Authors from the Avon line are usually my favorite: Jill Shalvis, Sophie Jordan, Lori Wilde and Rachel Gibson. I also enjoy reading romantic suspense – Karen Robards and Tess Gerritsen.

  1. What is your favourite genre?

Contemporary Romance, Erotic Romance as well as Romantic Suspense. Those are my top three.

  1. Have you ever tried to imitate another author’s style? And if so, why?

Again, going back to the Avon line, I think my writing is influenced by those authors. However, I do like my sex scenes a little more explicit and spicier. I love the way those authors write. I just read Sophie Jordan’s Beautiful Lawman and I couldn’t put it down. I read it in a day. I strive to accomplish that for my readers.

  1. What have you done with the things you wrote when in school?

I still have the things I wrote from high school. A lot of poems and some short stories as well as class assignments that I’ve kept.

Somewhere over the Ozarks

You've Got Tail Book Cover You've Got Tail
Peculiar Mysteries
Renee George
paranormal, mythology, romance, humour
Barkside of the Moon Press
2015 -
Kindle

Sunny Haddock, an animal-loving vegetarian psychic, is stoked to leave California behind to start a new life in the Ozark town of Peculiar with her best friend Chavvah Trimmel. She ups the moving date when Chav goes missing and high tails it to the small town.

When the gorgeous Babel Trimmel, Chav's younger brother, (along with the sheriff, the mayor, and some other nice folk) suggests Sunny haul her U-haul and butt back out of town, she's undeterred. Her psychic abilities might be out-of-whack, and blood makes her faint, but she's not a quitter. Besides, she's not about to go anywhere until she finds out what happened to Chavvah.

But Sunny has more to deal with than unfriendly townsfolk...like disturbing killer visions and the dog-like animal no one else sees that seems to be stalking her every move. To make matters worse, she is finding Babel to be more irresistible than crack on a donut.

Kidnapping, murder, romance, and a town full of people hiding the truth will keep Sunny Haddock busy as she tries to unravel the strange happenings in Peculiar, Missouri.

Peculiar Mysteries series from USA Today bestselling author Renee George are laugh-out-loud, grip the edge of your seat, and swoon as you fall in love tales of mystery, humor, and romance that take place in the small Ozark shifter town of Peculiar, Missouri.

The town of Peculiar – somewhere in the Ozarks, is solely inhabited by shifters – every size and shape. From squirrel to wolf although the latter normally keep to their own packs. A population of 1000 with another 1000 living in the woods that surround it but very widely spread – some homesteads have 40 acres! The law says that no humans can live in the town as every full moon they go crazy and forget their human side.

Integrators – ie those who want to live with humans, go to other towns.

This a 6 books series of short novels but longer than novellas, with 2 female characters who are key to all the books even when not the main character.

There is a lot of romance in these books, and always some crime and often a grisly murder or 2 – take the Little Piggy serial killer who takes the small toe from each of his victims.

The general nosiness of small towns and the special ability of the only vegetarian in town, who also runs the only vegetarian cafe (think wolves – just how much fruit will they eat?), Sunny who is a human and psychic (and her friend Chavvah). Sunny has introduced the town to Jackfruit – which I had not heard of before, but is a large fruit that in its unripe state resembles meat to look at and in texture, but takes on any flavour you add.

Light but fun reading if you like your crime with a dash of paranormal, which makes an enjoyable change for me from the very serious psychological crime stories I frequently read.

Series books in order:

  1. You’ve Got Tail
  2. My Furry Valentine
  3. Thanks for not Shifting
  4. My Hairy Halloween
  5. In the Midnight Howl
  6. Furred Lines

Way to Hell?

Hellbent Book Cover Hellbent
Orphan X
Gregg Hurwitz i
war, spy, action thrillers
Michael Joseph
(22 Feb. 2018)

To some he is Orphan X. Others know him as the Nowhere Man. But to veteran spymaster Jack Johns he will always be a boy named Evan Smoak.

Taken from an orphanage, Evan was raised inside a top secret programme designed to turn him into a deadly weapon. Jack became his instructor, mentor, teacher and guardian. Because for all the dangerous skills he instilled in his young charge, he also cared for Evan like a son. And now Jack needs Evan's help.

The Orphan programme hid dark secrets. Now those with blood on their hands want every trace of it gone. And they will stop at nothing to make sure that Jack and Evan go with it.

With little time remaining, Jack gives Evan his last assignment: to find and protect the programme's last recruit. And to stay alive long enough to uncover the shocking truth .

I was hooked and really had difficulty putting it down to sleep. I just wanted to know what happened next.

This is a taut and fast paced thriller in the guns and action genre where there are lots of weapon and advanced technology talk – and lots of amazing deeds by our hero.

Our hero here is OCD, overcompensates, is emotionally retarded and a trained assassin.

Who is ably assisted by by the gutsy, feisty, screwed up foster girl with a genius IQ and quite some way with computers and programming.

What Happens After

After You Book Cover After You
Jojo Moyes
contemporary, romance, womens'fiction
Penguin;
June 30, 2016
416

Lou Clark has lots of questions. Like how it is she's ended up working in an airport bar, watching other people jet off to new places. Or why the flat she's owned for a year still doesn't feel like home. Whether her family can ever forgive her for what she did eighteen months ago. And will she ever get over the love of her life. What Lou does know for certain is that something has to change. Then, one night, it does. But does the stranger on her doorstep hold answers Lou is searching for - or just more questions? Close the door and life continues: simple, ordered, safe. Open it and she risks everything. But Lou once made a promise to live. And if she's going to keep it, she has to invite them in . . .

What comes next, in life, and love, after the death of someone you love deeply. And can you move on?

A nicely judged follow-on from the best-selling ‘Me Before You‘ which left you sobbing when he when to Dignitas.

So Louisa is still struggling with her grief and this quote exemplifies her feelings.

I was given the sample chapter of Still Me the next book in the series to read and whilst i liked it , there was enough to judge the book I thought, but must assume it is as good as this book.

Tranquillity

Blaze
Tranquillity
Krista D. Ball
paranormal, demons and devils, urban fantasy
Kindle

rom Book 1: A half-breed and a female, Lady Bethany clawed her way to the ranks of the Elven Service's top military elite. They only knew her as their champion against Magic, and not the daughter of a Goddess. She'd expected a long, rewarding life protecting those under her care. But that was before her twin sister returned from exile, addicted to brutal Magic and human sacrifice, twisted inside, and abusing ancient prophecies to overthrow their mother and destroy everything Bethany holds sacred.

The world will burn in flames and innocents will die, unless Bethany can stop it. Unless she can take the life of her own sister.

A really enjoyable epic set – despite all the  blood and guts.

Empathetically described characters with believeable emotions – and scenes that tug the heart strings.

I read all 3 books of the first set plus ‘Interlude’ in one go – over 3 days – as I was deperate to find out what happened next. How did the next war occur? What triggered it? Who was a traitor/ And more importantly, did Arrago ever marry Bethany?

And then I read the next 2 books!

The books are:

Blaze, Grief, Interlude, Fury, Schemes, Liberate.

I really look forward to the 2 final books: Ambush and Surrender.
