Baculum Book Cover Baculum

As King of the Thrax, Lincoln leads the most powerful demon fighting force in the after-realms … yet he cherishes nothing more than his Angelbound love, Myla. All of which is why Lincoln loses his freaking mind when a demon horde targets his pregnant wife. So. Not. Happening. Sometimes, a warrior just needs to ignite his baculum sword and kick a ton of evil ass.

A continuation of the story of Mila and Lincoln and how their partnership develops.

The Viking Games – a small slice of the Viking world and gods had somehow found its way into a pocket which belonged only to itself, but that Lincoln’s father wanted to have access to for trade reasons. So he sent Lincoln out.

Lincoln found out that there was a trick being played in the arena….

In some ways this was an interesting difference in the story especially when you found out how the trick was being played, but it was a little too full of blood and gore for me. I like a good fight but this was a bit too much. And there wasn’t enough ‘Viking’ for me as they have such interesting gods if you poke into them.

I am beginning to feel ennui from the author. Here is a computer game but in book form. She has copied the concept and written it up rather than being entirely original.

BLOG – Angelbound BACULUM

By Christina Bauer

“Why I chose this particular topic to write about”

As part of the launch for my latest book, BACULUM, the lovely folks at The Bouncing Tigger Reads have asked that I share something about why I chose this particular topic to write about. In the case of BACULUM, I consider the story to focus on the ongoing adventures, love and growth that comes with being in a long-term relationship.

Bear with me. I swear, this will make sense.

For me, it all starts with the Asian story of Rama, which I first studied in college. In the West, most fables end with ‘they were married and lived happily ever after.’ Not the case here. The Ramayana basically begins with ‘Rama and Sita were married, and so started their adventure.’

When I first read this, I was stunned. It never occurred to me that marriage would be the beginning of an epic myth. Western fables focus on courting and falling in love… so what are we missing out on here?

That revelation started a lifelong obsession that basically says, hey, where the fuck are all the stories that start with two people getting together? Over the years, the result has been the many Lincoln-Myla books. In BACULUM, I try to explore what happens when you’re expecting a baby (or any big change, really). There’s a lot of not wanting to repeat mistakes. And since I’m writing this book, there’s also a villain who’s custom-built to push every worry-button in your brain!

If you’re following the Lincoln series, here are the other couple-topics I’ve tried to explore:

Book 1 – DUTY BOUND. This was an introduction to Lincoln
Book 2 – LINCOLN. This was the romance arc. My life would be a lot easier if I was happy just writing this arc over and over!

Book 3 – TRICKSTER. Lincoln learns how to balance being a badass guy with supporting his kick-ass wife.
Book 4 – BACULUM. What happens when your life gets turned upside down?

So there you have it: the story that launched a thousand ideas for Lincoln and Myla! I hope to see you at a future launch. You never know what our favorite couple will be doing!

Mack is here…

Mack Book Cover Mack
(Angelbound Offspring, #6)
Christina Bauer
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
Publication date: December 15th 2020

Dragons. Vampires. And the hidden city of El Dorado.

Threats abound and secrets are revealed in this exciting conclusion to the story of Kaps and Mack!

The Angelbound Offspring Series
1. Maxon
2. Portia
3. Zinnia
4. Rhodes
5. Kaps
6. Mack
7. Huntress

Excerpt

So this is freaky.

I may be asleep, but that doesn’t mean I’m getting any rest. In my dreams, I chase vampires through a darkened forest while frogs croak out the song, Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting.

Like I said, weird.

Ignoring all the strangeness, I focus on catching some vampires. Yet no matter how hard I try, I never get close enough to take one down.

Talk about frustrating.

A new voice echoes through the night. “Mack.”

Unlike the amphibian singers, this speaker sounds pretty real. Wouldn’t be the first time someone had to wake me up before dawn.

Little by little, I force my eyes to open. I’m so out of it, I half expect vampires to leap through the stone walls of my medieval-style bedroom. Instead I find my best friend, Ndidi, standing beside my cot. Moonlight accents his brown eyes, strong cheekbones and ebony skin. He has a scowl on his face and a toilet brush gripped tightly in his fist.

Wait, a toilet WHAT?

Blinking hard, I try focusing my bleary mind. Once my head feels clear, I shoot another glance in Ndidi’s direction.

That’s a toilet brush, all right.

“Are you awake, my Liege?” he asks.

Ndidi and I have been buddies since we were six years old. He hates waking me up, which is why he’s throwing around this Liege stuff.

“Call me Mack,” I counter.

“Fine.” Ndidi leans in closer. “You look like Hell, Mack.”

I chuckle. “That’s more like it.”

Excerpt 2

Midnight is here.

At last.

I stand outside the Zoetic Fortress with a smile on my face and an umbrella in my hand. Unlike Doc Langstrom’s toilet brush, this item is a true magic wand.

Why the enchanted umbrella? Midnight is almost here and with it, Kaps. Once my girlfriend arrives, we’ll hone our vampire hunting skills with the magical battle simulations loaded inside this very umbrella. Fun times.

Stepping in a slow circle, I inspect the landscape. Where should I wave this thing?

There’s no lack of places to cast, that’s for certain. The full moon shows off every detail of the Fortress grounds. Essentially the place is a series of mini-castles that encircle a central lawn.

Nodding once, I make my decision. Best to wave my umbrella-wand right in the middle of the open green.

Turning, I march toward the lawn’s center. Suddenly, a black shape passes over the moon. Pausing, I scan the dark streak more closely. To regular humans, that’s an ordinary shadow. But I’ve a bit of demonic DNA in my background. Which means I can look past magical glamours.

To me, it’s a dragon.

My grin widens. That’s not just any dragon, either. It’s Kaps. The woman I love. Based on her speed, she’ll land any second.

Perfect.

A great black shape blots out the moon entirely. Massive dark wings send a gust of wind in my direction. Heat radiates from her dragon’s body as she lands only a few yards away. For a moment, I can soak in the glory of her form. Dark scales. Eyes that glow red. A line of scarlet spikes that run down her back and tail.

A shimmer of red light surrounds her body. For one more moment, the massive dragon looms tall. Then it’s replaced by the human version of Kaps. My woman is no less impressive this way, what with her dark hair, amber eyes and whip-fast tail. She wears leather pants, hefty boots and a halter top.

Damn, I’ve missed her.

Purgatory is not what is was:

Quasi Redux
(Angelbound Origins) #8
Christine Bauer
Fantasy, YA, Myth and Legend, Fairytale
Monster House Books
(29 Sept. 2020)

Myla Lewis has her life back. Wife. Mother. Queen of the Thrax. Great Scala and mega boss of supernatural igni. Yay! Then one day, Myla runs across a strange fountain and her igni screech like crazy. Our heroine speaks the fateful words, “Some days, I wish I weren’t the Great Scala.”

Turns out, a demon-titan named Bedlam lurks behind the fountain… and he grants her wish.

Moments later, Myla returns to her teenage days of Purgatory High. No husband. No child. And zero power over igni. Without Myla around as the Great Scala, all quasis now live under Armageddon’s rule. That sucks. Hard. So Myla sneaks into Antrum in search of her husband, Lincoln. Together, they’ll take down the evil Bedlam and return life to normal, easy peasy. But once Myla arrives, two problems arise.

First, her husband doesn’t know her. At all.

Second, Lincoln is married to someone else.

Fuuuuuuu…

Christina is back in form with this novel -very enjoyable and innovative story as we discover that a small change in lifelines by a demon can change everyone’s history. And what we get is a version of Beauty and the Beast. Lincoln being the Beat of course, but is Myla a Beauty – well that really depends on your point of view and whether or not you like her tail (!)– and Lincoln is already married to a Beauty – whoops!

So a demon – Bedlam –  appeared who can remove the Igni from our heroine and send her back into a time when she was a fighter in the Arena and removes some of her memories as well.. Only it wasn’t really Myla – the body she was dropped into looked like her but apparently was a lab made person created from the DNA of all the best Arena fighters for the amusement of Bedlam and the demons who now fill the stands – that’s right, no Quasis. Purgatory has changed dramatically, and not for the better – and neither has Myla’s dragonscale fighting suit which is falling apart and apparently, her bottom is falling out of it too.

But the Beast isn’t having a much better time. Arx Hall isn’t in a good state, his Thrax are not well trained – or have died fighting and he keeps having premonitions about demons that he going to have to fight alone.

Of course, there are many adventures between this new incarnation of the various planes and Lincoln and Myla’s reunification. And look out for the Rainbows – the promise of better or a remembrance?

How excited are you for this interview?

So freaking excited, I can’t even tell you. The Bouncing Tigger Reads is the BEST!!!

Can you tell your readers something about why you chose this particular topic to write about?
My Angelbound book series is set in the after-realms, an imaginary place that includes Heaven, Hell, Purgatory and some other stuff. I grew up Roman Catholic and always asked the nuns fun questions such as, what’s it like in Purgatory? Needless to say, I didn’t get all the answers I wanted. When I got to be an adult, I figured I’d ‘fill in the blanks’ and Angelbound was born.

What appealed to you about it?

I have a nasty habit of filling in backstory on stuff. It’s a lot of asking questions in my head… and then answering them while I’m driving around or whatever. For Angelbound, I was like, who are all the archangels and archdemons as people? What if Purgatory isn’t fire and suffering but more of a nasty strip mall? Things like that. Living inside my head is a very strange place to be.

I also fell in love with writing the heroine, Myla. Every character is a part of me, both the good and so-called bad. In terms of Myla, she’s a side of me that’s irreverent and full of energy. It’s a blast to put her on the page!

Why do you think it is different and your approach is unique?

What’s different about my stuff:

-I write my books in the first person voice, so it’s like the character is sitting next to you and dictating their life.

-I use pop culture references, f-bombs and make up my own words and phrases (shitburger is a new one I’m using in QUASI REDUX. You’re welcome.)
-There’s always lots of action and mind-bending imaginary situations

-You’re either obsessed with my work or you think I’m super annoying

-Aaaaaaaaand that’s about all I can think of right now. Thanks for having me stop by!
