Now there is one thing I learnt in Judo when I was younger that being pint -sized myself gave you several advantages when fighting tall and bulky males.

1. They underestimated you. And

2. You could get under their guard and throw them down before they knew it, as your centre of gravity was underneath theirs.

So being pint sized, if you are feisty, is often a good thing.

So enjoyed this feisty kickass pint-sized female story as it had resonations…

Are the boys really bad?

A killer with a white picket fence. Suburbia, a great place for a man with secrets to hide—while investing in some solid real estate. The biggest drawback? Neighbors. In this case, a neighbor with sexy curves and a bright smile. Good thing she’s not his type. Single moms with annoying exes are on the do-not-date list. Stay away. Calvin wants to; it’s just not happening. He can’t help but find himself drawn to the chaos next door. And when danger threatens his suburban lifestyle, this assassin doesn’t hesitate to act. Killing people is easy. Domestication, on the other hand, terrifies him.

What a great name for an organisation of guys – plus 1 gal – who are assassins for hire – or ‘problem solvers’ as they put it.

With a cover story of being international real estate agents – which reminds of the real estate agents in my area called, wait for it, Hot Black Desiato.

So just who are the bad boys here? The BBI guys? Or the corrupt police they are happy to kill?

And should we like these bad boys who are American dreamboats? Well, they don’t kill women and children and do try to kill just bad guys. But being a UK citizen, I prefer my law enforcers not to use guns, but find myself conflicted as these are really good guys at heart… and protective of those who need it.

So a story I really enjoyed with good story-telling and style and a series that is clearly going to run through the guys and gal (see review of Pint Sized) and which I will read.

Hell’s Kitty

Good thing this Hellcat has nine lives because he’s going to need them if he’s going to survive Lucifer’s latest scheme and land on his four furry feet. Okay, so Felipe ate a few of the Styx sea creatures. In his defense, they were awfully tasty. Depleting the monster reservoir didn’t mean Lucifer had to go all Lord of Hell on him and order him to go on a stupid mission. And to Siren Isle of all places! Everyone knows males should stay far, far away from that dangerous place. The only stroke of luck is the woman he’s after isn’t a siren. Nor is she quite a mermaid. As a matter of fact, Jenny isn’t like anyone he’s ever met—so, of course, this curious cat wants her. Except he’s not the only one. Not long after his arrival, he runs into problems, which he’s only too happy to solve in a permanent and violent fashion. Getting Jenny off the island and back to Hell’s inner circle is proving more troublesome than expected, though. Who knew a simple retrieval mission would signal the start of a dangerous—yet exhilarating—adventure, and despite his tomcat ways, this purring feline can’t help but fall in love.

I’ve been wanting to read this story since I found out about a hellcat and was not disappointed.

As a cat owner, I can just imagine my cat – if she could talk – saying the same things as Felipe does. And certainly some of my male cats, if not neutered would behave the same. And as for catching protected creatures – we had one tom who caught everything he could even protected dormice! And he stole steak from our neighbour’s kitchen when she left the window open and dropped a live baby bunny on our daughter’s head at Easter and and….

So great fun reading this book. Loved it.

Geeks are Good

Hell’s Geek Book Cover Hell’s Geek
Welcome to Hell #6
Eve Langlais
paranormal, mythology, romance
Kindle

Welcome to the pit where the danger is never ending, the sea monsters are multiplying, and Lucifer is playing with hearts.

Big deal, so he kept losing the oar. It wasn't Adexios fault the Styx monsters were working against him, but tell that to his dad. Charon is determined to make a man out of him--whether his mother likes it or not--and Lucifer has offered to help. Help means sending Adexios in to the wilds of Hell with an Amazon warrior as his companion.

The savage fighter doesn't know what to think of her geeky partner. Adexios attracts Valaska with his brains instead of brawn. He also shows a cunning courage she can't help but respect.

They'll need all the skills they can muster, though, if they're going to prevail against the newest threat to Hell. With the wilds submerged by seawater, and monsters hungry for flesh, they'll have to fight to stay alive, and learn opposites not only attract, they explode. (With passion, not guts, in case that wasn't clear.)

Charon (the boatman across the Styx) has a son, who is not a good boatman – but he is a whizz at maths and also makes friends with the river’s monsters.

In hell, you do the opposite of the norm to gain bonuses and brownie points with Lucifer. So being rude is good.

Lucifer wants to win the competition of Worst Boss!

So when going to school you need to flunk out not come top of the class – but Adexios comes top of everything to shame of his mother and father…

But what he learns – both in school and out, especially his exotic creatures and their biology, proves useful when sent into Hell’s Wilds. With an Amazonian warrior no less.

A fun adult book with all the mythologies and as always a surprise from  Eve.

Weddings and Hell

Hell’s Bells Book Cover Hell’s Bells
Eve Langlais
paranormal, humour, satire, romantic comedy
Kindle

Welcome to Hell where good intentions have paved the road in sin.

A catastrophe has befallen Hell. The great and mighty Lucifer has fallen prey to the most wicked of spells. He’s become…nice.

Just using that word makes Gaia want to gag. The demon she fell in love with is not some pushover, polite, candy-ass, nice guy. She wants her big, bad Lord of Sin back.

Can she, along with the minions of Hell, find a way to break the curse? And will they do it in time to celebrate the wedding from Hell?

Lucifer getting married ? well yes, especially to Gaia. But that said, I think Eve was getting tired when she wrote this one. Lots of mayhem but each book seemed to me to be getting shorter and the storylines less imaginative. After all, how many times can you have killing and wars and?

3 stars. Sorry Eve!
