Get Angelbound from Prince Lincoln's point of view PLUS an all-new part of the story AND a bonus prequel novella*** When it comes to fighting demons, Prince Lincoln is the greatest warrior in the history of his people, the thrax. Now Lincoln faces his hardest fight yet…and it’s not on a traditional battlefield. Lincoln is falling in love. And the girl is part demon. Between a fated dance at the Ryder mansion...a life-changing walk through a hedgerow maze...and a massive battle with none other than the King of Hell...Lincoln realizes that he wants to share his life with Myla Lewis, the part-demon girl who has captured his heart. However, an evil thrax noble—the powerful Earl of Acca—is prepared to do anything to stop Lincoln and Myla from having a future. But Lincoln won’t give up on his Myla. Ever.  To fight Aldred, Lincoln works to create a different kind of marriage—an Alliance of the lesser thrax houses against Acca. Sadly, just as Lincoln starts to makes some progress, the nobles who’ve joined his Alliance begin to vanish. Is Aldred behind the disappearances, or is someone else vying for power? When Lincoln discovers the truth, it upends his entire world, threatening his future with Myla in ways no one could ever have imagined.

I am very fond of this version of world building and love the idea of demons getting loose and causing illnesses etc – but being invisible to the human eye. And that the Thrax and others like human ice-cream and films. The Ghouls are creepy and the monsters are very imaginative. Don’t read these books if you get nightmares as they will inhabit them!

I have now read all the books so far published in the series and found them enjoyable, but I thought that of all of them Armageddon was rather slow in tension building.

The story of Lincoln finally comes out now – his background and how he courted Myla from his perspective and then we learn about how Maxon got his night terrors in Armageddon.

Better to have read Armageddon before Maxon but this author does not produce books in chronological order so a bit tricky…

However, if you can manage to sort out the storyline in your own mind, then do read the books as they are published.

Publisher’s Note: Christina Bauer is a non-linear thinker who came up with ARMAGEDDON and then went back and wrote some earlier books. This is why you’ll see ARMAGEDDON (Book 8) and the Offspring series available before LINCOLN (Book 2) THE BRUTAL TIME (Book 7). We’ve told her to stop this practice, but she keeps giving us lewd hand gestures in response. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience.

“It was hotter than Hades' closet in Las Vegas, and brighter than a Zeus-fueled lightning bolt.”Goddess Tisiphone, Avenger of Murder, spends her days playing poker in the underworld, far away from mortals - and all the terrible mistakes they make. But when her sister turns up missing, Tisi reluctantly agrees to bring her sister back from the most unholy place in the world: Las Vegas.Teamed up with Archer Mays, a recently deceased - and easy on the eyes - FBI agent, the anger-prone deity must keep her temper long enough to battle demons, save her sister . . . and unravel a plot sinister enough to destroy the realm of god and man forever. From the author of the enchanting Stacy Justice mystery series comes the highly anticipated first book in her new Secret Goddess series: a book that proves hell hath no Fury, because she's in Las Vegas.

This story had some good ideas with new gods and goddesses and demons for me – not come across them but willing to believe they are in the pantheons.

But that said I found the story style was rather pedestrian and thus did not inspire me to research these gods etc.

I did rather like the idea of Dionysius being behind the idea of building Las Vegas in the desert, and some of the minor deities taking part in LV shows.

I thought it lacked humour and/or snarky conversation and characterisation.

A thousand years. No memories. Five powerful mages dying to save her. In the city of Neo New York, mages rule the world. People like Eva, the non-magical kind, mean nothing. The only destiny waiting for her will be to serve the mages for the rest of her days. Except Eva isn’t like other humans. Locked in a tower for a crime she doesn’t even remember, Eva is saved by none other than some of Neo New York’s most prestigious mages, and they won’t let anyone take their new toy away from them. When Eva’s memories make a reappearance, she realizes she might be a little bit more than just a nuisance. Now, Eva must dodge jealous ex-lovers and ambitious council members, all while keeping her past a secret. Whoever said fairy tales had happy endings hasn’t walked a minute in Eva’s shoes.

A fantasy take on the Rapunzel story, with a multiverse where Magic arrived sometime around the 14th century and everything changed. Some people are born with Magic and take a high place in society and  the ‘humans’ those without magic, are basically slaves.

I found this story good as far as it went but in my opinion, it left with too much of a cliff-hanger I realise that this is now a series but..

I also thought it was too short and wanted it to be fleshed out more. I didn’t feel invested in any of the characters enough to really want to read more.

The Auction and the Vampires

Until Midnigt Book Cover

Crimson Fold #1

Erin Bedford

fantasy, urban fantasy

(29 Oct. 2017)

The Hunger Games meets Cinderella. This fairy tale has no happy endings only dark beginnings. They call them the Crimson Fold. High up in their castle they look down on my little world and wield a silent control. That is, until the invitations are sent out. I never dreamed I’d be selected. They tell me it’s a privilege. I should be honored. But the fear in their eyes doesn’t lie. If I refuse to go, my family will be shunned. If I go, my life and my body will no longer be mine. It’ll be theirs. At midnight it will be over. At Midnight I’ll be his.

So Vampires – the Crimson Fold – rule the world – or at least the City State that Clarabelle lives in and each year they have a grand ball where various members of the populace are viewed – rather like a cattle auction. Their looks and capabilities are tested and then they are assigned to their role in the palace – or not. So the ones that look ‘best for breeding’ are given as lovers – or in marriage to the Royalty. The ones not so good are made into servants.

Because this whole Palace choosing so closely resembled the slave/cattle auction I marked it down a little – although it was probably meant to do this.

I liked Clarabelle and do wonder what her Prince has in store for her, but not enough to want to read the follow on book. Sorry. 3.5 stars

As a submissive, Zach stayed out of pack issues. He showed up when it was required, but for the most part, he stuck with those like him. When he comes across a business card of a man selling his kind, Zach has to step up or step aside.

She was a girl without a name, a pet to the man who owned her. Loneliness was the only thing she could count on in this life. Others like her came and were sold within twenty-four hours. There was no use getting attached when they would be leaving her alone once more. And then he showed up…

Zach brought her a name, an identity. He was nothing like the others before him and promised her freedom. It was a promise too good to be true.

You’ve been reading about slaves in our so-called civilised society in London, where he we have slaves of the more exotic kind. It seems, that even in London, people keep slaves to do their ‘dirty’ work eg housework and so on, but in this book they use shifters as exotic pets and train them to behave, and often use them sexually as well.

To obtain such a slave you need to go to an auction and here a member of the pack finds out about one and acquires a slave – to free her of course! and to close down the slave ring if he can.

Again a rather different story-line within this series and nicely written.
