KRISTOFFER POLAHA: tells us

Do you have an unusual hobby?

Yeah, writing books! My day job is acting in movies and on television!

How many books did you write during Covid19/Lockdown?

I wrote three books during the Lockdown, two with Anna, Moments like This and Book 2 in our From Kona With Love series and a book for kids entitled How Are You Loved?

My family and I also liked to watch a lot of movies during quarantine. My wife and I called it film school for our boys, we have them an education in cinema.

What about turning your best seller into a film or TV series – would you want to write the script or be on the production team?

Anna and I absolutely plan on turning our series into a series of movies and we will be producing them. Our plan is help keep the creative team telling the story from the page to the screen, so Anna and I will have a hand in writing the screenplays, production, and in my case, even acting.

What, in your life, are you most proud of doing?

I’m most proud of the family my wife and I have built together. We have three sons who are adventurous and excited about life, they are smart and creative, but most importantly, they are kind. Life is a rollercoaster, but we are enjoying the ride together!

In addition to co-starring with Rainn Wilson in Backstrom (FOX), he had a multi-season role on the acclaimed series Mad Men (AMC) and Castle (ABC). Polaha is also well-known for starring in Hallmark Channel movies such as Dater’s Handbook with Meghan Markle, and the Mystery 101 franchise on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries.

He has appeared in numerous independent features, including Where Hope Grows, Devil’s Knot (Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon), and the Tim Tebow film, Run the Race.

ANNA GOMEZ tells us her story:

Which is your favourite place to visit? Do you incorporate it into your books?

I travel constantly for work and for leisure, so I have many favorite places. I think the two places I consider like my second homes are Paris and New York. Just because I have made many friends and connections there over the past few years. There was a time that I was there for weeks on end, which made me feel like a local, having had the privilege of hanging out at less touristy places. And yes, I love incorporating different places in my books. Always. I write about the universality of love in any country, place or situation, and my characters are also from different parts of the world.

Which of your books / series are you most proud of?

Under my pen name, Christine Brae, I am most proud of my three books, all of which have won literary awards. But I think my heart is falling in love all over again with this new series of books – our From Kona with Love series. We have created so many amazing characters, I am finding myself invested in each and every one of them.

What, in your life, are you most proud of doing?

I think, like Kristoffer, I am most proud of the life we have made here in the U.S. after almost twenty five years of hard work and resilience. To have made my way up the corporate ladder, starting off as a copy girl and to have had the most amazing mentors and supporters in my industry- what an experience! I have also witnessed my children evolve into such admirable adults and have managed through two careers in one lifetime. Balancing them out and bringing my whole self to the table every single day, is a privilege I don’t ever intend to waste.

Anna Gomez

was born in the city of Makati, Philippines and educated abroad. She met and married her best friend who whisked her away to Chicago over twenty years ago. She is Chief Financial Officer for Leo Burnett Worldwide, a global advertising company founded in 1935. In her capacity, Anna serves on the board of several not-for-profit organizations, namely the Hugh O’Brien Leadership Organization and Girl Scouts of America. She is also the executive sponsor for a number of employee resource groups focused on Diversity and Inclusion.

Under the pen name Christine Brae, Anna has published six novels, has an established fan base, and a dedicated following. Her titles rank in the Top 100 months following their release. Her last three novels, In This Life, Eight Goodbyes, and The Year I Left, have won literary awards and were immediate bestsellers on Amazon, ranking #1 across multiple categories.

A contemporary, holiday fantasy with a new twist on A Christmas Carol and It’s A Wonderful Life.

Abby Nicholson used to love Christmas. Until she didn’t.

After leaving Winter Glen, the small town famous for its Christmas celebration and her family’s greeting card company, Abby is forced to return to the home she left behind when the unexpected passing of her father thrusts the business into her hands.

One where Christmas has vanished!

Now stuck in a place devoid of hope, joy, and the spirit of the season, Abby sees family and friends altered in the most terrible of ways.

Determined to set things right, though unsure how, Abby takes out her father’s pen and begins to draw. When she realizes her art is coming to life, she sets out to recreate the holiday and bring back the most wonderful time of the year.

But some are determined to keep an iron grip on the town and will do anything in their power to stop her.

Christmas.

Just the word makes me happy. It is, far and away, my favorite holiday. Don’t get me wrong. I’m on board with, say, the sweets of Valentine’s Day, and the fireworks and celebration of the 4th of July. Oh, and I love the crisp, cool air of autumn, the turning of the leaves, the shortening of the days, and the it’s just around the corner feeling of the scares, tricks, and treats of Halloween. Of course, Thanksgiving is a wonderful time as well, full of family, friends, and delicious food. A perfect trifecta.

But, Christmas.

It’s more than just another holiday. It’s a special time. It’s a special feeling. It’s something that swirls in the wintry air on the wings of colored lights and the scent of gingerbread. It envelops you, and fills you with a joy that no other season—for me—can match.

That’s why I wanted to write this story.

The idea that all of those wonderful feelings that wrap me and so many others up in their silver and gold and red and green arms mean so much. It was then that I asked myself, What if it all went away? Further, what if my own failing to believe in the spirit and, yes, magic of the season were the cause? It was an unbelievable notion. I could never not believe. Never not want to spread the joy and cheer and merry of the season.

But what if, just if, someone did? And what would such an act do to not only that person, but everyone around them? Family, friends, and co-workers. How would they change? Why would they change? And, what would someone have to do to try to get everything back to normal?

How would they even be able to do it?

They were all such interesting questions that Write Christmas answers.

I wanted to explore the notion of things we wish for, and the things we really, really want can be exactly the opposite of what we need. I was interested in diving in to the idea that doing that one thing you think will make something all okay, make it all better, actually turns everything upside down. How a second chance can change everything in ways you never expected.

The road to figuring it all out has heart, romance, and a little magic. After all, it’s Christmas!

And now the spirit flows…

The Christmas Spirit
Alexandrea Weis
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Published by: Rosewind Books
Publication date: October 27th 2020

SOMETIMES IT TAKES ONE BROKEN HEART TO HEAL ANOTHER.

Courtney Winston is a writer on a deadline. Eager to finish her book and get over a recent break-up, she ditches Christmas with her family and retreats to a secluded cabin in the mountains.

Appliances rarely work, and cell service is spotty, but Courtney senses there is more to her rustic rental—something dark and haunting.

Then Peter, the attractive Stone Mountain Lodge owner, and a meddling cook, Mrs. Finn, keep coming around, shattering her peace and offering advice on how to fix her heavy heart.

Courtney grows closer to Peter, but Mrs. Finn warns her of his troubled past. Undaunted, Courtney sets out to win him over. But being with the brooding stranger may end up costing her more than she ever imagined.

TheChristmasSpiritTourBanner - And now the spirit flows...

Alexandrea answers my question.

Why do you think it is different and your approach is unique?

The Christmas Spirit came as a mixture of my agent telling me I needed to write a Christmas romance with snow in it, and my fascination with Christmas lore from around the world. I blended both concepts and came up with a modern woman, Courtney Winston, thrown into a world where witches and ghosts are real.

I am known for my dark characters and ghostly tales, and I did not stray too far from those themes in this adventure set in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. What appealed to me about the story was bringing legends from Sweden and Germany and weaving them into a modern American tale. There are even Norwegian Forest cats, which were my favorite.

I wanted to give a fresh perspective of Christmas lore by incorporating some legends people may know about. The blending of so many Old-World ideas gave this romance its unique flavor. The added scary bits where dark forest creatures and supernatural elements play a part, provide an unexpected twist.

In my hometown of New Orleans, Christmas has always had a ghoulish edge, and I wanted to share that tradition in this book. Fortunately, I was able to find a lot of European legends with a darker and sinister feel to weave into this story. Many of the older Christmas myths usually involve children being eaten by some goblin or witch, like Halloween. It was that vibe I wanted to bring to The Christmas Spirit.

Our heroine is a rational and no-nonsense person, and sticking her in a forest where all is not what it seems intrigued me because of the offbeat characters and situations I could create. But the ghoulish creatures do more than set Courtney on edge; they teach her to appreciate her life, and no matter how heartbroken and down on her luck she may feel, life and love matter more than anything.

It was the lesson about never giving up on life that I wanted to impart with this story.

Like any good Christmas tale, Courtney should end the book a little wiser and a little more grateful than when she began. All the things she held dear, all the desires she wanted to achieve, didn’t matter. Only love of family and friends meant anything. And it will take a brief battle with spirits to teach Courtney a life lesson about the wishes we want versus the wishes we need.

EXCERPT – THE MAGIC INGREDIENT (BAR HARBOR HOLIDAY SERIES, #1)

BY LINDY MILLER

Part of eating a cupcake was the experience, and in Eve’s opinion, a little extra frosting on your face made it all the more gratifying. Her mouth filled with the taste of vanilla, chocolate, and marshmallow, all of the flavors intermingling just as she’d planned. Still, something seemed off. It wasn’t enough to toss the batch out, but in Eve’s opinion, the recipe hadn’t quite reached perfection.

Eve swallowed, wiping away the frosting from her nose. “It’s not perfect.”

“It’s incredible,” Jeff countered before he shoved the rest of the cupcake into his mouth.

He had a dollop of frosting on his nose, which made Eve smile despite her frustration at the recipe. “I don’t know if I believe your verdict, but at least you didn’t call it glitzy.”

Jeff mumbled something that sounded like idtellinguidperfek around the mouthful of pastry.

“Something is missing. Something small, a flavor that isn’t quite there. It’s not major, but enough that I notice.” Eve wiped her hands on a dishcloth and leaned against the counter, crossing her arms over her chest in frustration. “I don’t know why I can’t get it right. Maybe I’m not as great a baker as I think I am. It shouldn’t take so many tries to get a recipe correct. Not if you know what you’re doing.”

Jeff wiped his face and leveled his gaze at Eve as he stepped closer. “I don’t think that’s true at all. You’re a fantastic baker. You’re a fantastic lot of things.”

He was so close now Eve could smell his scent—musky and warm, with notes of pine and sandalwood. An inviting smell. Eve wondered how she’d never noticed it before. Then again, the more she felt drawn to Jeff the more she’d tried to keep her distance, kind of like reaching her goal—one step forward, two back.

“Really?” she asked, hoping she sounded interested and not incredulous. She didn’t want to offend someone offering her a compliment, even if she didn’t believe it. “I try so hard and I feel like I come up short.”

“Doing everything on your own isn’t easy, and I can see how you might think that you’re failing, but you’re looking at the situation the wrong way.”

Eve shook her head and kept her eyes downcast, even when Jeff’s hand found her shoulder, sliding down to cup her upper arm. His touch sent a tingle down her flesh and she resisted the urge to look up.

“Is there another way?”

“Instead of focusing on what you’re not doing well, think of all the things you are amazing at. Try to see yourself as …”

He paused.

Eve wondered if he’d changed his mind about whatever it was he was going to say.

Jeff cleared his throat and started over. “Try to see yourself the way I see you. Like Candy does, and Doris and Annie. And Bapo, for what it’s worth.”

Eve snickered, despite herself. “You’re never going to get tired of ribbing him, are you?”

“Never.” Jeff’s hand slid further down her arm to rest on her elbow. “My point remains.”

The place where Jeff’s hand rested on her arm pulsed. “How do you all see me?”

“We see someone who works hard every single day, around the clock, never taking any time for herself. Who gives her all to everything she does, even when it seems impossible, and who makes everyone feel needed and wanted when she’s around simply by being there.” Jeff stepped in closer. His heat brushed up against her chest. “It isn’t about finding the perfect recipe for a new confection or keeping the family business around for another generation, Eve. It’s about you. You make Mount Desserts worth saving. And I believe in you. We all do, even if you don’t believe in yourself.”

When Eve finally looked up, she found herself staring into Jeff’s eyes. They were warmer and sweeter than any chocolate ganache she’d ever made.

His free hand found its way to her other elbow and she allowed herself to be drawn from the counter. Jeff pulled her into his embrace, his hands releasing her elbows to slide around the small of her back, holding her close.

There was no denying the butterflies now.
